Republican wins Prince’s Lakes clerk-treasurer

A Republican newcomer has earned the Prince’s Lakes clerk-treasurer seat.

Erica Giger won the seat with 65 percent or 149 votes. Independent candidate Rose Yates received 78 votes or 34 percent.

Republican Karen Harrison, who has the seat until the end of the year, did not run for reelection, and instead won the Republican primary for a town council seat. She and four other candidates ran unopposed for the town’s town council seats.

The clerk-treasurer manages the finances for the town, which has a population of about 1,340 residents. The clerk-treasurer pays the town’s bills, collects fees and keeps the town’s record. The job pays $50,088.

Giger has spent nine years work in banking and wanted to help the her community and help the town work, she said.

She has listed staying in budget as a top priority.
