Ice, snow, cold temperatures on the way

Icy road conditions are expected as commuters leave work today, and as much as 3 inches of snow could be on the ground by the time they head back Tuesday morning.

Between 1 and 5 p.m. today, rain is expected to transition to ice, then snow, dropping 1 to 3 inches in Johnson County and much of central Indiana, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory takes effect at 4 p.m. and continues until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Flash freezing is expected.

Temperatures will plunge tonight, with a Tuesday morning wind chills as low as 5 below zero, the National Weather Service said.
