High-speed chase through 2 counties leads to arrest

A high-speed chase through two counties led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man on several charges over the weekend.

Jacob Dale Rieman, 43, was arrested on charges of felony theft, false identity statement, reckless driving, criminal mischief, failure to stop after an accident and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, after he led police from multiple agencies on a high-speed chase through the southside of Indianapolis and Johnson County.

The car chase started just after 5 p.m. Saturday near State Road 37 and Epler Road in Indianapolis, just north of the Johnson County line, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle. IMPD turned over the chase to Johnson County once it crossed the county line.

Rieman ignored several stop lights and signs, drove the wrong way at a roundabout to avoid police and damaged several yards in a neighborhood southeast of State Road 37 and County Line Road, according to the sheriff’s office report.

He swerved in and out of heavy traffic near the intersection of State Road 135 and County Road 500 N. Whiteland police stopped traffic at the intersection during the pursuit, the report said.

Stop sticks were deployed near the Bargersville Veterinary Hospital off State Road 135. Rieman swerved to try to miss the stop sticks, but spun out, crashing in a bean field on the west side of the road, according to the report.

Deputies drew their weapons as they approached the vehicle. They arrested Rieman. He provided them with a fake name and birth date, the report said.

Rieman, 733 Southfield Court, complained of chest, abdomen and leg pain, and paramedics transported him to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The injuries stemmed from a pre-existing condition, not the crash, and Rieman was taken into custody, the report said.

He is being held at the Johnson County jail on $12,400 bond.
