Community meal helps others eat over the holidays

A lunch out will allow others to have a meal to enjoy on Christmas day.

The Jim Rhoades Memorial Hog Roast is today from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Scott Hall at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Franklin. Food will be served until 1:30 p.m. or until the food runs out. The meal is sponsored by the Franklin Rotary Club.

Lunch is free, but donations are encouraged and will be accepted at the door. Dine in or carryout will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund and Interchurch Food Pantry. The Johnson County Good Cheer Fund raises money to buy holiday food supplies for needy families in the area.

Catering will be provided by Malone Catering in Greenwood.
[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]

The event is named in memory of longtime Franklin resident Jim Rhoades, who started the event. Rhoades, a Franklin Rotary Club member, owned Rhoades True Value Hardware in Franklin, where he hosted the event in the business’ parking lot for many years. Rhoades was also a former Johnson County commissioner.
