Car crashes into southside hospital

One man was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital after the car he was driving hit a southside hospital, just north of the Johnson County line.

About 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, a man was driving in the parking lot of Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, near the intersection of Emerson and Stop 11 roads, when he hit the building just south of the hospital’s outpatient entrance, door No. 5, Franciscan Health spokesman Joe Stuteville said.

The driver was taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment after Franciscan hospital employees rendered emergency aide. The driver was the only person in the sedan, Stuteville said.

The hospital did not suffer any structural damage, and the name of the driver has not been released. No one was in the immediate area when the crash occurred, he said.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Beech Grove Police Department and Indianapolis Fire Department responded.

Patient care should not be affected at the hospital and business was expected to continue as normal, Stuteville said.

“Drivers should be aware of the traffic around them and to watch the rules of the hospital parking lot,” he said.
