WINTER WARM-UP WEEKENDS, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Mallow Run Winery.

What goes better with a cold January day than a hot bowl of soup? Nothing. And what goes better with a good bowl of soup than a nice glass of wine? Again, nothing. Mallow Run kicks off the new year with its winter soup-and-music series.

Enjoy this weekend’s soup, creamy chicken and wild rice, while enjoying Mallow Run’s diverse offering of wines. Live music will be provided by Exit 99 from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, and Davis & Devitt from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

STOUT STORIES, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Big Woods Franklin, 1800 E. King St.

The traditional book club meets happy hour in this program provided by the Johnson County Public Library. The group will meet at Big Woods to enjoy great food, a craft brew or two and discussion in a comfortable atmosphere.

This month, the group will be discussing “The Girls” by Emma Cline. Copies of the book can be obtained by contacting one of the county library system’s librarians.
