Girls basketball sectional brackets revealed

The state girls basketball tournament begins next week, and the seven county teams each learned on Sunday evening how and when their respective championship paths will begin.

The Class 4A Center Grove Sectional gets started next Tuesday, with Franklin to meet Franklin Central in the opening game of the evening and the host Trojans, the reigning sectional champ, to take on Shelbyville.

Greenwood and Whiteland received byes into next Friday’s semifinals, with the Woodmen set to play the Grizzly Cubs or the Flashes and the Warriors to meet the Center Grove-Shelbyville winner.

At the Class 3A sectional at Indianapolis Washington, Indian Creek drew Herron in the first round next Tuesday evening. Beech Grove, which received a bye, awaits the winner of that contest in the semifinal.

In Class A, host Greenwood Christian will play a first-round game against Providence Cristo Rey next Wednesday, with the winner to face Tindley or Victory College Prep in the semifinal round on Feb. 7. The Cougars won their first-ever sectional crown last winter.

Edinburgh, meanwhile, drew Class A No. 2 Trinity Lutheran in the first round of the West Washington Sectional. The Lancers, who lost to the Cougars by 14 back in December, head into the final week of the regular season having already established a new school record for victories (15 so far).
