Man arrested after police find marijuana during traffic stop

An Indianapolis man was arrested after police found nearly 16 grams of marijuana, nearly six grams of a white powdery substance and several guns in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Gustavo Arellano Gallegos, 24, was arrested on charges of dealing in cocaine/narcotics, dealing in marijuana/hashish, possession of marijuana and carrying a handgun without a license.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop at 7:13 p.m. Saturday after he saw a vehicle traveling seven and 14 miles per hour below the speed limit and swerving over the center line, almost striking another vehicle near U.S. 31 and State Road 252 near Edinburgh, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Police attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the vehicle continued to drive south on U.S. 31, the report said.

The motorist stopped and police smelled burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Gallegos. Two teens were also in the vehicle, according to the report.

A K-9 officer indicated narcotics were in the vehicle and police searched the vehicle. They found three plastic bags containing a powdery substance, digital scales, a box of ammunition, multiple guns, 10 rubber containers of wax marijuana, a mason jar of a green plant material, the report said.

The white powdery substance weighed 5.9 grams, the marijuana weighed 15.8 grams.

Gallegos was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $10,800 bond.

He is a known gang member, the report said.
