Franklin school bus collides with car

A Franklin school bus collided with a car Wednesday afternoon, delaying the drop-off of 18 students.

The collision occurred just after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westview and Canary Creek drives in Franklin.

No students on board the bus were injured, but the passenger car involved in the crash was heavily damaged, and a child in the car complained of pain caused by a seat belt, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

Four students were picked up at the scene of the accident, and 18 were transferred to another bus by 2:30 p.m. to be dropped off. There was a 30- to 40-minute delay in getting those students home, said Robin Betts, spokesperson for Franklin schools.

Betts received a text at 2:17 p.m. notifying her of the accident, and by 2:23 p.m., a transfer bus was en route, she said.

A phone call and email went out to all parents and guardians of the Creekside Elementary School students on board the bus, she said.

The bus sustained damage to its bumper, but is driveable, Betts said. School officials did not have a cost for repairs Thursday afternoon, she said.
