Trojans’ Crady advances to state

Center Grove’s Caleb Crady, who won the 1-meter diving title at last week’s Franklin Sectional, placed fourth at the Bloomington South Regional on Tuesday to secure a place at the state meet.

Crady posted a score of 398.15, well behind winner Evan Thomas of Floyd Central (543.45) but comfortably situated within the top eight advancing spots.

State diving preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the IU Natatorium.

Women’s basketball reaches HCAC semis

Host Franklin College jumped out on top early and kept extending the lead, rolling to a 63-35 win over Earlham in the first round of the HCAC tournament on Tuesday evening.

Destinee Cross scored 20 points for the third-seeded Grizzlies (17-8), who forced 22 turnovers on the defensive end and held the Quakers under 20 percent shooting.

Franklin will travel to Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday for a 3 p.m. semifinal against No. 2 seed Hanover.
