Pursuit leads to arrest

An overnight pursuit that damaged properties in Edinburgh resulted in the arrest of a Greensburg man on several charges.

Marc Santillano, 32, 324 W Wilson St., was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, habitual traffic violator, possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

Prosecutors will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday, a sheriff’s deputy traveling east on County Road 775 South, near County Road 700 East, attempted to pull over a car that was traveling west because it had its brights on and didn’t have a license plate light. The car sped away from the deputy, who proceeded to chase it, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The car ran a stop sign at County 650 East and County Road 800 South, turned east and drove toward Edinburgh, according to the report.

Once it reached the town, it turned into a neighborhood, where it drove through yards and a chain link fence on Piatt Trailer Court. The deputy continued to follow the car onto Clark Street, but lost sight of it on Blue River Drive, the report said.

About 10 minutes later, a nearby resident opened their door and told the deputy the car had driven through their front yard and was parked in the gravel driveway behind their house, according to the report.

Deputies, along with Edinburgh and Princes Lakes police, set up a perimeter.

An Edinburgh police officer found Santillano, who witnesses said was driving the car, hiding behind a trailer. The officer chased him on foot through the trailer park, and stopped him with a taser, according to the report. Police found a bag of marijuana on the ground where Santillano was hiding, the report said.

Santillano was treated at Johnson Memorial Hospital and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he is held on $13,000 bond, Sheriff Duane Burgess said.
