<strong>Franklin closes parks, recreation center, cancels programs</strong>

The City of Franklin today announced its Parks and Recreation Center will be closed until at least April 6.

All parks programs are canceled during that time, according to a news release from the city.

The city’s Active Adult Center is also closed.

<strong>Greenwood library cancels programs through April</strong>

The Greenwood Public Library today canceled all programming and community room reservations through April 5.

One exception is the library’s VITA tax preparation that meets on Tuesdays. That service will continue as planned by appointment only with additional measures taken for the safety of library volunteers and visitors, according to a library news release.

The library will remain open during regular business hours for basic services including material checkout, computer access and small study room usage, the news release said.

<strong>Greenwood police limits public interactions</strong>

The Greenwood Police Department will also limit interactions with the public, it said in a news release.

Officers will take non-emergency reports over the phone, and the department has suspended gun permits, fingerprinting and in-person record checks until further notice, according to the news release.

<strong>County library says no public gatherings</strong>

The Johnson County Public Library today canceled all public programs and will not allow use of its meeting rooms until at least April 13, according to a news release from the library.

Here is a look at what is included, and what’s not:

What is canceled?

– All programs such as storytimes, classes, workshops, book clubs, etc.
– All Library events and partner events taking place inside library buildings
– All community room bookings
– Adult Learning Center tutoring sessions

What is not canceled?

– Regular Library services such as material checkout, public computer access, Wi-Fi, etc.
– Reference assistance, Census help, career help
– Small study room usage

<strong>County jail restricts visitors</strong>

The Johnson County Jail will limit access to visitors as a precautionary measure in reference to the coronavirus, or COVID-19, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Inmate video and remote visitation will continue as normal. Jail staff will continue to allow attorneys into the facility to visit their clients, but all jail programs and visits by volunteers are suspended.

All newly processed inmates undergo a medical screening at the time of intake. The screening includes a temperature check and health-related questions, according to the news release. No inmates have tested positive for COVID-19. The Johnson County jail has extensive procedures in place, including isolation and quarantine plans, if an inmate were to test positive for the virus, the news release said.

Non-essential office services are also suspended, including gun permits, fingerprinting, in-person records requests and obtaining copies of reports, according to the news release.

Essential services such as sheriff sales and cash bonding will continue with increased
precautions, including personal protective equipment and taped lines to maintain
distances.

Precautions are also in place for deputies on the road. Some calls for services, such as filing reports, will be handled over the phone. Again, emergency response will remain the same.

<strong>Public safety amps up precautions</strong>

Starting today, Bargersville fire stations will limit access to both firehouses. Only essential personnel such as firefighters, paramedics and maintenance workers will have access to the buildings. Deliveries can be made to Station 201 headquarters, 3991 N State Road 135, in the administration lobby on the south side of the station, according to a news release from the Bargersville Fire Department.

Anyone seeking emergency help or a Safe Place will be allowed access, the news release said.

There will be no delays in emergency responses to 911 calls, according to the news release. Fire personnel is equipped with proper protective equipment, the news release said.

<strong>Council meetings canceled; government buildings closed</strong>

The New Whiteland Town Council announced today its public meeting scheduled for Tuesday is canceled due to coronavirus concerns.

The Trafalgar Town Council also canceled its public meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday. Trafalgar Town Hall will be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Monday.

The Cordry-Sweetwater Conservancy District closed its office today for an undetermined period of time, according to a news release. It will be staffed to take phone calls, the news release said.

<strong>Schools plan week of eLearning starting Monday</strong>

Local school officials announced Thursday they would shift to virtual learning next week.

Schools are in session today, according to announcements made to parents and guardians at most local schools, but co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and practices are canceled.

Center Grove schools will take advantage of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s waiver days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning students will not be expected to do any work on those days, and practice eLearning days Thursday and March 20. Center Grove is on spring break from March 23 to April 3.

Clark-Pleasant and Indian Creek schools will have eLearning days all next week, and are also on spring break from March 23 to April 3.

Franklin schools announced they would also move to an eLearning format next week ahead of spring break March 27, but has called a news conference at 10 a.m. today.

Greenwood Community Schools begins spring break today. Edinburgh Community Schools is on spring break through March 20.

<strong>Special Olympics fundraising open house canceled</strong>

A fundraising open house for Special Olympics Indiana at the Harry Cooler Conference Center has been canceled.

The event, which was to be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, will be rescheduled at a later time.

Special Olympics Indiana has canceled all practices, competitions and social activities through March 31 in response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 respiratory illness.
