Edinburgh man faces felony dealing, gun charges

An Edinburgh man faces felony dealing and possession of a handgun without a license charges after police found 47 grams of meth and the gun during a routine traffic stop.

Michael Paul Riddle, 36, 8954 Del Char Middle Drive is charged with dealing meth greater than 10 grams, a Level 2 felony, possession of a handgun without a license, a Level 5 felony, and removing identifying marks on a handgun, also a Level 5 felony.

Riddle was pulled over in Greenwood by a sheriff’s deputy on Jan. 23. During a search of Riddle’s vehicle, the deputy located a handgun under the driver’s seat and multiple bags of methamphetamine throughout the car, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Jan. 28 in Johnson County Circuit Court.

The deputy found three baggies of methamphetamine; one in a box under the driver’s seat, and two inside a safe in the backseat, according to court documents.

In a recorded interview with police after his arrest, Riddle said he had been a drug dealer his whole life, and sold six ounces of drugs each week, court documents said. He planned to sell all the methamphetamine that was found in his car, he told police.

Riddle is being held at the Johnson County jail on $40,600 bond.
