Greenwood man arrested on arson charges

A Greenwood man was arrested after he told police he set fire to two cars early Sunday morning.

Matthew T. Westfall, 42, 1371 Chesterfield Court, was arrested on charges of arson, a Level 4 felony, and intimidation.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Amity Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a report of two vehicles on fire around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 4000 block of South 700 East, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The owner of one of the cars said she and Westfall were going through a divorce, and he had made threats to her, the report said.

Police pulled over Westfall in New Whiteland, and he admitted to police he set the two cars on fire, according to the report.

He was arrested and booked into the Johnson County jail, where he is held on $7,600 bond.
