NWS says Wednesday storm likely straight-line winds

Surveyors with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis on Friday continued to survey storm damage across the county.

Weather service officials had not confirmed by Friday afternoon that any tornadoes touched down in the county Wednesday night. All evidence indicates it was likely strong straight-line winds, said David Beachler, an Indianapolis-based meteorologist.

Severe storms with high winds, hail and possible tornadoes swept across the Midwest and caused damage to dozens of homes and businesses in parts of Indiana, authorities said. Locally, the storm toppled power lines and uprooted trees across the county and damaged buildings in Franklin.

The weather service sent out a team Thursday evening to assess the damage.
