Maple Grove principal earns regional honor

A Center Grove principal has been named the best school leader in seven counties.

The Indiana Association of School Principals named Brooke Phillips, principal at Maple Grove Elementary School, a 2020 Principal of the Year. She has served as Maple Grove’s principal since 2011. District 9 covers Johnson, Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Lawrence, Monroe and Morgan counties, according to a news release from Center Grove Community Schools.

Phillips has given her all to the job of leading the elementary school, Superintendent Rich Arkanoff said in the news release.

“Mrs. Phillips is passionate about serving the needs of her students and staff,” Arkanoff said. “She has a huge heart and works every day to provide a student-centered environment where students can receive the best foundation possible.”

Prior to her time as principal at Maple Grove, Phillips was principal of East Side Elementary School for four years and taught in Carmel for 8 years. Phillips will receive her award at the 2020 Principals of the Year Recognition Celebration during the Indiana Association of School Principals Conference Nov. 22. During the awards dinner, the 2020 State Elementary Principal of the Year will be named among the regional winners, including Phillips, according to the news release.

“I am humbled and honored to have been named the District 9 Principal of the Year. Each day, I get to serve the most amazing students, families, staff and community. This award is representative of what we do together at Maple Grove, as we are truly a team,” Phillips said in the news release.

“I love the kids, I love my staff and fellow administrators, and I am grateful every day for this opportunity to be a principal.”
