GREENWOOD
Sandra Kay Mathews, 73, of Greenwood, Indiana, was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on May 13, 2020. She was born on April 18, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Vernon V and EvLynn Marie Mathews.
Sandra was blessed by the outreach ministries of Greenwood Christian Church as well as the loving caregivers at Greenwood Village South and Home Instead.
She graduated from Wichita State University in 1972 with a B.A. in elementary education. She taught in special education before returning to her studies doing graduate work in library science at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS.
Sandra had a lifelong love of horses. She enjoyed all holidays, especially Christmas. She enjoyed bird watching and feeding the squirrels. She enjoyed trips to the Indianapolis Zoo and appreciated sending and receiving cards and correspondence.
Sandra leaves behind to treasure her memory, her brother, Vince L. (Kristy) Mathews, two nephews: Andrew (Molly) Mathews and Craig (Molly) Mathews and a niece: Carolyn (Rick) Rushing; as well as 6 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother EvLynn Mathews, in 2013, and her father, Vernon Mathews, in 2014.
Due to the current unprecedented guidelines limiting public gatherings, Sandra’s services will be private. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.
