Clark-Pleasant names new school leaders

Whiteland Elementary School will have a new leader starting in 2021.

Brent Schmidt served as an assistant principal for Whiteland and Break-O-Day elementary schools, and has local roots that go further back than that, earning his bachelor’s degree from Franklin College before earning his master’s degree in school administration at Indiana Wesleyan University, according to a news release from Clark-Pleasant Community Schools.

Schmidt will replace current Whiteland Elementary School Principal Cirsten Lewis on Jan. 1. Lewis will be Worthsville Elementary School’s first principal, according to the news release.

Construction of the school, which is scheduled to open in time for the 2021-22 school year, is already underway.

Additionally, Mike Akers is the new director of transportation for Clark-Pleasant schools, replacing Bob Downing, effective immediately. Akers has more than two decades of experience and was most recently the assistant director of building operations and principal at Bloomington North High School.

Downing is retiring after six years with Clark-Pleasant schools, the news release said.Â
