Three Trojans finish in Senior Open top 10

<p>Staff Reports</p><p>Next week, Center Grove’s boys golf team will attempt to make up for its lost high school season by winning the Indiana 2020 Team Event, the unofficial state championship tournament.</p><p>The three graduated seniors who will likely lead the Trojans’ charge during that tourney fared quite well in their tuneup competition.</p><p>Alex Heck, Peyton Short and Caleb Tidd were all among the top 10 individuals after Thursday’s final round of the Class of 2020 Senior Open at The Legends.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]Click here to purchase photos from this gallery<p>Heck, who had turned in a 73 in Wednesday’s opening round, tacked on a 1-under-par 71 on day two to finish with an even-par total of 144, tied for third overall. The Valparaiso recruit got to within one shot of the eventual winner, Avon’s Tyler Nickol, on the back nine, but Nickol had a pair of birdies late and finished at 140, three strokes clear of the field.</p><p>Short, who ended Wednesday tied for fifth with Heck, had a second-round 76 to wind up at 149, good for a share of eighth place. Classmate Tidd (74-76—150) finished the tournament in a tie for 10th.</p><p>The recently graduated Trojans will now turn their attention to the team tournament, which begins with qualifiers at six sites around the state next Monday. Center Grove students have three teams competing at The Legends. Franklin also has a team entered, with another comprised of golfers from Whiteland and other county schools.</p><p>Neither the Senior Open nor the team tournament are associated with the IHSAA or any high school teams.</p>
