Joseph E. Barton, 73, of Whiteland, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
</p>
<p>
Joseph was born on February 17, 1947 in Empire, Alabama to the late Joseph D. Barton and Mary Sue (Phillips) Barton. Joseph married the love of his life, Linda Swiger on June 20, 1966 in Fort Riley, Kansas.
</p>
<p>
Joseph worked as an Engineer at Indiana Bell/Ameritech for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He is a United States Army Veteran, who was a lifetime member of the Greenwood VFW post since 2015. He was a member of the Greenwood Christian Church in Greenwood, Indiana.
</p>
<p>
Joseph loved spending time on the green playing golf. He enjoyed buying snacks and he could never turn away a chili dog. He liked watching old classic television shows. He loved Alabama ~ ROLL TIDE!
</p>
<p>
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his lovely wife, Linda (Swiger) Barton; his son, Joseph E. Barton II; grandchild, Shane Haldorsen; brother, James Barton; and sister, Theresa Romaker.
</p>
<p>
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph E. (Tania) Barton III, Indianapolis, Heather Lynn (Jarod) Barton, of Indianapolis, Treva (Jason) Steele, of Whiteland; his sisters, Carolyn Barton, of Hephzibah, Georgia, Shelia Snow, of Jasper, Alabama, Lacretia (Jeff) Tucker, of Gary, Indiana; grandchildren, Cara Benjamin, Cora Steele, Maya Steele, Brandon Benjamin, Mikayla Barton, Logan Cody; great grandchild, Ariel O’Bryan; former son-in-law, Alan (Laura) Benjamin; many loved ones and friends.
</p>
<p>
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any Veterans Group in his name or to The Greenwood High School Band (Greenwood Marching Woodmen).
</p>
<p>
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Jessen Funeral Homes & Crematory ~ Whiteland Chapel with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of service.
</p>

Arrangements are entrusted to Jessen Funeral Homes & Crematory ~ Whiteland Chapel.
</p>
