Gutty’s Comedy Club back open for weekend laughs

If laughter is the best medicine, a local comedy club says it is ready to be the "Laughter Pharmacy."

Gutty’s Comedy Club in Greenwood has been open for the past couple weekends and wants to continue spreading laughter to the community during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and societal strains, according to a news release from the club.

"Even if we can only operate at 50% of capacity, we want to provide an opportunity for people to have a laugh (and) escape from all of the stress and tension," owner Steve Rivera said in the news release.

The club is continuing to prioritize the safety of its customers and comics. Microphones are wiped down between acts, and tables and seats are placed at least six feet apart and wiped down regularly, according to the news release.

Tickets can be purchased in advance on the free Gutty’s Comedy Club mobile app, available on iTunes and Google Play, the news release said.

Tonight’s headliner is John Deming, featuring Jon Cheser. Next weekend, Leslie Nelson Townsend is set to return to headline the Fourth of July show. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
