Trafalgar utility working to fix water disruption

Trafalgar water customers experienced a service disruption Wednesday evening, after a water main line broke in downtown Trafalgar.

Customers started reporting low water pressure about 5:45 p.m., according to a Facebook post from Trafalgar utility and street superintendent Lee Rodgers. The utility immediately notified Prince’s Lakes Utilities, where Trafalgar’s water supply originates, and established an emergency water supply with help from Brown County Water by 6:10 p.m., Rodgers said.

The initial cause was thought to be a supply problem from a pump station, but further investigation determined that a water main line broke where the main crosses under a creek on Pearl Street in the downtown area, he said.

A temporary fix is in place to restore water to all customers. However, a boil water advisory remains in place until further notice, Rodgers said.

The utility was still working on a permanent fix for the broken main at press time Thursday.
