Laurie Almeda (Burks) Lawlis of Franklin, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. She was born April 30, 1941 in Picher, Oklahoma.

Laurie graduated from Union High School in Providence, IN in 1959 and attended Butler University. As a devoted wife, mother, and servant of the Lord, Laurie was very involved with school and church volunteer work including Weekday Religious Education, PTA, teaching Sunday school, choir, and donation drives. She also worked as a homemaker, operated her own catering business, and delivered meals to the elderly for CICOA. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, keeping up with current events, and debating politics. She never met a stranger and lived her life as an example of faith, love, and kindness.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald “Dick” Lawlis; sons Donald (Porsha), Randall, David, and Jeremy; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Bonnie Burks; two sisters, Kimberly Durbin and Jeannie Holderman; and a daughter-in-law, Porsha Lawlis.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a celebration of life service to be held at Grace Assembly of God, 6822 N. US 31, Whiteland, IN 46184, on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 10 a.m. Rev. David Skinner will be officiating. The church is located five miles south of the Greenwood Park Mall.
