GREENWOOD

Wilbur E. Guffy 82 of Greenwood, IN passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 31, 1938 in Beech Grove, IN to Ed and Eunice (Cherry) Guffy. He married Beverly L. (Sayers) Guffy on September 22, 1956 in Springfield, TN, she survives.

He was a 1956 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. He retired on July 2, 1987 as head of security of L.S. Ayers and Company in Indianapolis, IN having started his career on July 14, 1958 at the L.S. Ayers and Company Glendale Store having served 31 years. He later was a funeral associate for G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home in Greenwood.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilbur was a compassionate caring person who enjoyed serving others in his life.

Survivors include his wife Beverly L. (Sayers) Guffy of Greenwood, IN, his daughter Anita Russell and son in law Pete Russell of Indianapolis, IN, a son Doug Guffy and daughter in law Jane of Holland, MI, grandchildren Erick Russell (Sarah) of McCordsville, IN, Blake Russell (Claire) of Indianapolis, IN, Christian Guffy (Angie) of Cicero, IN, Caitlin Conti (Michael) of New York, NY, Sarah Guffy of Indianapolis, IN, Claire Guffy of Chicago, IL and Jonathan Guffy of Indianapolis, IN, great-grandchildren Grady Russell, Abbie Russell, John Russell, Ava Guffy, Elina Guffy, Ronan Guffy and Lincoln Guffy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister in law Dr. Darlene Sayer Kardatzke, father in law Grady Sayers and mother in law Virginia (Huffman) Sayers.

Howdy Bell will conduct a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN where the service will be live-streamed for family and friends can connect at www.swartzmortuary/obituary/wilbur-guffy.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 until service time at the mortuary. COVID-19 social distancing is requested by those attending.
