Police: Greenwood man broke into trailer at Goodwill

<p>Police arrested a Greenwood man who broke into a locked semi-truck trailer at the Goodwill Outlet Center, a loss prevention officer said. </p><p>Christopher T. Crist, 28, was arrested on a burglary charge, a Level 4 felony that could result in up to 12 years in prison and $10,000 in fines, after a loss prevention officer watched him break into the trailer which was parked at Goodwill in the 900 block of Emerson Avenue, Greenwood. </p><p>Police responded to a report of the burglary about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. A loss prevention officer, who was asked to sit on the roof of the Goodwill due to recent thefts, saw two men, including Crist, park at a neighboring business, turn their lights off, walk to the east side of the building and break into the trailer, which was locked, according to a Greenwood Police Department report. </p><p>The security officer told police he called 911 when he heard banging on the trailers, which police later discovered had been broken into and damaged, according to the report. </p><p>The security officer said he yelled at the two men and they fled on foot through a tree line to a nearby hotel, the report said. </p><p>Police searched the car the men arrived in and found Crist’s wallet with his ID inside, according to the report.</p><p>The officer was on his way to the hotel to determine if Crist was a guest when the officer spotted him. Crist jumped a fence into a nearby construction site, but the officer was able to stop him, the report said. </p><p>Crist told police he was at the Goodwill, but was digging through an on-site dumpster. </p><p>He was taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $6,600 bond. </p>
