Teens injured in hit and run accident

Two teenagers are hospitalized after being struck by an SUV in Greenwood Wednesday morning.

Three teenage boys were crossing U.S. 31 at the Worthsville Road intersection in Greenwood when a dark-colored SUV struck two of them early Wednesday morning, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant chief of police at the Greenwood Police Department.

Greenwood police responded to the scene at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. One of the boys was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis and the other was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital. Both boys, aged 15 and 17, are in stable condition, Fillenwarth said.

The driver did not stop and drove off after the accident, Fillenwarth said. Greenwood detectives are still searching for the driver, who was described as a heavy-set white male with brown hair wearing what appeared to be hospital scrubs. The car was described as a dark-colored 2009 to 2012 Chevrolet Traverse with heavy front end damage.
