Edinburgh man arrested after hit and run accident

<p>An Edinburgh man was arrested after allegedly striking a 21-year-old with his truck and leaving the scene of an accident early Monday morning.</p><p>Shawn Brandon Park, 32, of Edinburgh, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury accident, a Level 6 felony.</p><p>Edinburgh Police found Kameron Mason, 21, of Edinburgh injured and laying in the grass near Duncan Street and County Line Road in Edinburgh at around 1 a.m. Monday.</p><p>Mason was treated at the scene for a bloody nose and broken leg, before being sent to Franciscan Health Indianapolis in serious, but stable condition, said Doyne Little, Edinburgh police chief.</p><p>At the scene, police found evidence of a crash and Mason’s wrecked moped, but no vehicle, the police report states. However, police were able to find the make and model of the vehicle, a gray GMC Sonoma, using paint chips left behind at the scene, the report states.</p><p>A witness told police she saw the accident but did not see the truck leave the dead-end street, prompting police to search the area for the truck, the report states.</p><p>Police found a vehicle with moderate damage matching the paint and the witness’s description parked on Duncan Street and obtained a warrant to search it, the report states.</p><p>Samples of the paint and DNA were taken for the investigation on Tuesday, the report states.</p><p>Police contacted the registered owner of the vehicle Tuesday and were informed that Park drives the vehicle, the report states.</p><p>At around 5 p.m. Wednesday Park called Edinburgh Police to turn himself in, the report states.</p><p>Park told police he didn’t see Mason or any lights on the moped: “I did not mean to hit Kameron Mason and that I didn’t see him at all like he was not even there,” he said, according to the report.</p><p>Park told police he did stop to check on Mason and had called 911 to report the accident but he got scared when he saw the injuries and drove off, the report states. He was booked into the Johnson County jail Wednesday evening and has since been released on bond, jail records indicate.</p><p>According to online court records, Park has previously served time in jail for disorderly conduct and dealing methamphetamine.</p>
