Greenwood police look for suspects in gas station shooting

Suspects fled and no one is believed to have been injured after a shooting Wednesday night at a Greenwood gas station, police said.

Greenwood police responded about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of shots fired at the Thornton’s gas station on U.S. 31 and Stop 18 Road.

One witness told police they saw a red vehicle pull into the parking lot and fire several shots at a gray SUV, according to a Greenwood Police Department report. The witness said a Black man who appeared to be in his 30s was driving the red vehicle, and the shooter, who appeared to be a biracial man also in his 30s, was in the passenger seat. The shooter was wearing a black hat. Both vehicles fled south on U.S. 31 after the shooting, the report said.

Another witness said they heard several shots fired between both vehicles, according to the report.

Greenwood police were still looking for the suspects involved Thursday, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant police chief.
