Center Grove’s football team will open its season this Friday after all.
The Trojans, the state’s top-ranked team in the IFCA coaches’ poll released Monday, announced that it will be hosting Decatur Central this week. The two schools had originally been scheduled to play on Aug. 28, with the Hawks hosting.
Decatur Central wound up with a Week 1 opening of its own after New Palestine canceled due to a quarantine situation. Center Grove’s original opponent for this Friday, Warren Central, did the same a week ago.
Center Grove athletic director Jon Zwitt said that while this now creates a schedule opening next week, there are some potential options and he has confidence that the slot will eventually be filled.
