<p>Football</p><p><strong>Whiteland in need of Week 2 game</strong></p><p>Greenfield-Central suspended its football activities through Aug. 30, meaning its scheduled Aug. 28 game with Whiteland has been canceled. The Warriors were still looking into possibilities as of Tuesday night.</p><p>Center Grove also has an opening on its schedule for next Friday. The Trojans and Warriors were regular Week 2 opponents from 2011 to 2017.</p><p>Boys soccer</p><p><strong>Cougars open with blowout win</strong></p><p>John Amador scored four goals as Greenwood Christian opened its season with a 9-0 rout of Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday. Sam Graves added two goals for the Cougars, while, Ethan Rothrock, Noah Cottongim and Matthew Heldman had one apiece.</p><p><strong>Grizzly Cubs top Golden Bears</strong></p><p>Behind two goals from Aaron Richards, Franklin earned a 2-1 victory over Shelbyville on Tuesday in its first match of the season.</p><p><strong>Warriors battle to draw</strong></p><p>Whiteland began its season on the road with a 1-1 tie against Speedway. Brayden Forehand scored the lone goal for the Warriors.</p><p>Boys tennis</p><p><strong>Warriors open with shutout</strong></p><p>Whiteland blanked New Palestine in its first match of the season, 5-0, on Tuesday. Quinten Gillespie, Ty McCullars and Ariss Mardanzai swept the singles points for the Warriors, while the doubles matches were won by Dylan Gross and Christian Felker at No. 1 and Travis Robinson and Josh Pitts at No. 2.</p><p><strong>Woodmen remain unbeaten</strong></p><p>Greenwood swept Perry Meridian, 5-0, on Tuesday for its second consecutive victory. The Woodmen got singles wins from Ethan Gray, Nick Belovic and Charlie Brooks. Thomas Burtt and Aidan Luttrell won at first doubles, with Sam Fenner and Noah Paswater doing the same in the second spot.</p><p><strong>Grizzly Cubs blank Cardinals</strong></p><p>Franklin defeated visiting Southport on Tuesday, 5-0.</p><p><strong>Rebels edged by Flashes</strong></p><p>Roncalli was defeated by Franklin Central, 3-2. Tyler Schofield won at No. 1 singles for the Rebels.</p><p>Volleyball </p><p><strong>Trojans fall at Avon</strong></p><p>Class 4A No. 5 Center Grove lost in straight sets at ninth-ranked Avon on Tuesday, 25-22, 25-20, 25-12.</p><p><strong>Rebels win in four</strong></p><p>Roncalli topped Lawrence North on Tuesday, 25-21, 25-19, 25-27, 25-15. Faith Burch had 10 kills for the Rebels and Noelle Zingraf added 25 digs.</p><p><strong>Braves rally for five-set win</strong></p><p>Indian Creek opened with a 18-25, 25-13, 14-25, 25-23, 15-13 comeback win over Waldron on Monday night. Makena Hogue paced the Braves with nine kills, 24 digs and three aces, while Emilee Scott had 11 kills and four aces and Jessie Hart totaled 43 assists.</p><p>Cross country</p><p><strong>Rebels name new coach</strong></p><p>Roncalli named Cathy Kitchens as its interim girls cross country coach on Tuesday. Kitchens, a 2001 graduate of the school, is in her fourth season as a member of the Rebels’ staff.</p>
