Weekend construction to begin on I-65 south of Franklin

Part of Interstate 65 between Franklin and Columbus will close for a brief period this weekend.

Both directions of I-65 will close for up to 20 minutes starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, between mile-markers 89 and 68, for fiber optic connection work near County Road 1200 South in Shelby County. Entrance ramps at Exit 80, State Road 252, and Exit 76, or U.S. 31, in Edinburgh will also be closed during this time.

Additionally, asphalt patching on I-65 between Franklin and Edinburgh will start Friday. This work will include single-lane closures over the next six weekends, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release. Patching will take place in both directions between Exit 80 and Exit 90, or State Road 44, in Franklin.

Work is planned over the next six weekends, with around-the-clock, single-lane closures starting as early as 8 p.m. each Friday through 6 a.m. each Monday. The $2.3 million project is scheduled to be completed by late September, the release said.

Crews plan to begin patching Friday night near State Road 252 and move north on I-65 toward Franklin. This will continue for the first three weekends. Crews will likely move to southbound I-65 in mid-September.
