Police arrest Indy man after chase through county

Police arrested an Indianapolis man after a 10-mile-long chase overnight Thursday.

Eric Shane Emerson, 48, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement in a motor vehicle, a Level 6 felony, aggressive driving and driving while suspended with a prior conviction. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Greenwood police attempted to pull over a car driven by Emerson about 12:30 a.m. Thursday near U.S. 31 and Fry Road due to its headlights being out. The car fled. It was later determined that Emerson, the driver, had a suspended license, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant chief of the Greenwood Police Department.

A police chase ensued south on U.S. 31, through Greenwood, New Whiteland, Whiteland and Franklin. Whiteland police deployed stop sticks at U.S. 31 and Tracy Road, and Franklin police deployed stop sticks at U.S. 31 and Branigan Road, flattening all of the car’s tires, Fillenwarth said.

Emerson came to a stop on Acorn Drive in Franklin, 9.8 miles from where the chase started.

No person or property was damaged during the chase, Fillenwarth said.

Emerson, 5326 Victoria Drive, was taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $3,200 bond.
