Girls golf

Grizzly Cubs dominate Mid-State

Ninth-ranked Franklin blitzed the field at the Mid-State Conference championship on Saturday, winning by 47 strokes at The Legends.

Senior Ellie Beavins was the medalist with a score of 73, while Liv Parramore (77) and Ava Ray (78) were second and third overall. Morgan Sandrock rounded out the Grizzly Cub scoring with a 92.

Greenwood placed fifth behind an all-conference effort from Maura Guilfoy.

Cross-country

Jefferson breaks course mark

Whiteland’s Will Jefferson set a course record of 14:59.6 at CERAland Park to win the Columbus North Invitational on Saturday morning. Jefferson, who also shattered his school record by 27 seconds, helped the Warriors sixth as a team, while Greenwood was 13th.

In the girls large school race, Whiteland finished fifth on the team side, with Katia Olmstead (23rd) the top local individual. Greenwood placed 15th in the field.

Indian Creek’s girls were second in the small school meet, led by freshman Phoebe Dowty’s fifth-place individual showing (19:09.3). The Braves were fifth as a team on the boys side.

Trojans excel in Terre Haute

Center Grove’s girls finished first in the State Preview meet on the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute. Sadie Schemmel was the Trojans’ top individual finisher in ninth, followed closely by Lily Brunsman (12th), Lara Phipps (14th), Bella Hodges (17th) and Elizabeth Madden (19th).

The Trojan boys took second behind a fourth-place showing from Drew Costelow. Raef Sauer (12th), Jarrett Rockwell (13th), Griffin Hennessy (26th) and Parker Mimbela (29th) rounded out the Center Grove scoring.

Woodmen take two

Greenwood defeated New Palestine 4-1 and Hagerstown 5-0 on Saturday. The singles lineup of Ethan Gray, Nick Belovic and Charlie Brooks was perfect on the day, dropping a total of five games between them.

Aiden Luttrell and Thomas Burtt won both of their matches at No. 1 doubles for the Woodmen (10-2).

Warriors remain perfect

No. 24 Whiteland improved to 11-0 with a sweep of Terre Haute North. Quinten Gillespie, Ty McCullars and Ariss Mardanzai all won their singles matches in straight sets. Christian Felker and Dylan Gross earned a three-set victory at first doubles, while Travis Robinson and Josh Pitts won in the second spot.

Volleyball

Trojans fourth at Providence

Playing one of the state’s toughest tournaments on Saturday, Center Grove finished fourth at Providence with a 2-2 record. The Trojans (6-6) beat Brownstown Central and Columbus East but lost to Fishers and Class 4A No. 9 Bloomington South.

Roncalli defeated Franklin and 4A No. 7 Providence in straight sets and lost to Fishers.

Roncalli blanks Covenant

Chiara Schilten scored off an assist from Nora Jordan in Roncalli’s 1-0 victory over Covenant Christian on Saturday. Goalkeeper Ansley Bishop preserved the shutout.
