Bloomington man arrested after driving through Franklin roundabout

<p>A Bloomington man was arrested after colliding with a new roundabout this Labor Day weekend at W. Jefferson Street and Westview Drive on Franklin’s west side. </p><p>Cole J. Daab, 22, was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated, an A misdemeanor.</p><p>Franklin police and firefighters responded to the accident at 4:41 a.m. Saturday. At the scene, first responders found a gray Ford car wedged in the middle of the roundabout with Daab at the wheel, according to an incident report.</p><p>A witness told police the vehicle approached the roundabout at a high rate of speed from the west, but did not change lanes to go around the roundabout. Instead, the car continued straight, ramping over the outer wall of the roundabout, according to the report.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]<p>Daab was the only occupant of the vehicle. He did not sustain any injuries, the report said.</p><p>Daab was questioned and told police he had consumed about five alcoholic beverages over the course of the evening, both at a friend’s house and a local bar, according to the report.</p><p>A breathalyzer test taken at the scene registered .218 blood alcohol content, the report said. </p><p>An official assessment of damage to the roundabout had not been conducted by press time Tuesday. An initial damage estimate for city property is between $10,000 and $25,000, said Capt. Scott Carter of the Franklin Police Department. </p><p>Most of the damage appears to be to the outer wall rather than the central monument bearing the city’s logo, Carter said.</p><p>The roundabout is safe to use and open to traffic, he said.</p>
