FRANKLIN, IN.

Iris J. (Kidwell) Smith, 92, of Franklin, IN passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community, with her son and daughter at her side. She was born August 5, 1928 in Morgan County, IN to Harvey and Onna Etta (Wyrick) Kidwell.

She married Deloris E. “D” Smith on February 27, 1948 at the Waverly Christian Church. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2012.

Iris was a graduate of Center Grove High School. In her early years, she worked with her husband on the family farm, later working as a bookkeeper, and as a devoted homemaker. She was affiliated with Union Christian Church in Franklin, IN, and was a fifty plus year member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. She had a deep passion for flowers and enjoyed working in her garden. Iris loved spending time with her family, and also traveling with her late husband to many destinations, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Survivors include her son Mark Smith (Lynn) of Columbus, IN, her daughter Pamela Black (Greg) of Franklin, IN; two granddaughters Jennifer Roberts (Ed) of Nineveh, IN and Tricia Sharp (Robert) of Morgantown, IN; three step-grandsons Alex Clerc (Jenny) of Berkhamsted, England, Chris Clerc (Jin) of Columbus, IN and Dan Clerc (fianc? Renee White) of Indianapolis, IN; four great-grandchildren Jacob Roberts, Sydney Roberts, Lauren Sharp and Savana Sharp; four step-great-grandchildren Poppy Clerc, Nancy Clerc, Henry Clerc and Victor Clerc; one brother David Kidwell (Suzie) of Franklin, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gerald and Barbara Smith of Franklin, IN; brother-in-law Merrill Smith of Franklin, IN; sister-in-law Martha Kidwell of Banta, IN; special cousin Mary Lou Acton (Robert) of Mooresville, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents; husband and three brothers Robert Kidwell, Dean Kidwell and Harry Kidwell.

Due to current COVID-19 circumstances, the Reverend David Mark Owens will conduct a private family service on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. The service will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/iris-smith.
