Whiteland woman and grandson arrested on burglary charges

Police arrested a 72-year-old woman and her grandson after police say they ransacked someone’s home and took items.

Helen J. Stegemoller and Robert D. Stegemoller, 20, both of Whiteland, were arrested on burglary charges.

Greenwood police on Thursday responded to a report that the door to a mobile home in the 1900 block of Eastwood Street had been busted in, and the place was ransacked with two TVs missing, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant police chief.

The caller told police she suspected her landlord, Helen Stegemoller, was involved because she was renting the mobile home from her and owed her money, Fillenwarth said.

Officers arrived at Helen Stegemoller’s Whiteland home to find Robert Stegemoller moving one of the two reportedly stolen TVs into the house, Fillenwarth said. Helen Stegemoller told police she and Robert Stegemoller did break into the mobile home and steal the TVs because the tenant owed her money, he said.

One TV was valued at $400 and the other was valued at $250, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

Helen and Rober Stegemoller were arrested and booked into the Johnson County jail. Helen Stegemoller was released on $3,300 bond, and Robert Stegemoller is held on $3,300 bond.Â
