Silo catches fire in downtown Bargersville

<p>Flames engulfed a grain dryer Wednesday night in the middle of downtown Bargersville.</p><p>The Bargersville Community Fire Department and White River Township Fire Department responded to a fire inside a Umbarger Show Feeds silo just before 9 p.m. Wednesday on Main Street in Bargersville. When crews arrived, the fire was substantial, rising out of the top of the grain dryer, said Mike Pruitt, Bargersville’s deputy fire chief.</p><p>Two ladder trucks with high volume water streams allowed the crews to get control of the fire contained to one silo quickly, extinguishing it in about 45 minutes, he said.</p>[sc:text-divider text-divider-title="Story continues below gallery" ]<p>The exact cause of the first is still under investigation, but the department suspects loose corn debris may have caused a malfunction in the dryer, which was filled with shelled corn, Pruitt said.</p><p>It was also unclear Thursday how much damage was caused, but the grain dryer is not functional, he said.</p><p>Umbarger posted to social media Thursday afternoon that its active feed mill where show feed is made daily was not affected by the fire, and it is continuing business as usual, the post said.</p>
