Fugitive turns himself in after weeks-long search

<p>An Edinburgh fugitive who evaded law enforcement for nearly three weeks surrendered this weekend.</p><p>About 4 a.m. Saturday, Michael Paul Riddle walked into the Johnson County jail and turned himself in, Sheriff Duane Burgess said. Riddle told deputies he was tired of running.</p><p>The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Riddle, 37, since he skipped a sentencing hearing for two meth-dealing cases Sept. 21. Riddle was sentenced to 37 years in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony; possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony; six years for possession of a handgun with an altered serial number, a Level 5 felony; and one year for possession of a handgun without a license, a misdemeanor.</p><p>The sheriff’s office, along with Greenfield Police Department, Indiana State Police and the United States Marshals Office on Thursday searched a wide area near Heartland Resort campground in Hancock County for 12 hours, Burgess said.</p><p>Other agencies pulled back from the search at about 2 p.m. but the sheriff’s office stayed in the area until 10 p.m., leaving only when they were positive Riddle was no longer nearby, Burgess said.</p><p>The public was asked not to approach Riddle, who was considered armed and dangerous.</p><p>He is held without bond.</p>
