Results delayed in House District 65 race

Incumbent Chris May, of Bedford, was handily leading his challenger, Democrat Paula Staley, of Nashville, at press time, and looked poised to win a second term in the Indiana House of Representative, representing District 65.

However, results from Brown County and Monroe County had not been reported by the Associated Press at press time. Since the district encompasses all of Brown County, the race was not officially called for May.

At press time, May had 77% of the votes across the district, compared to 22% of the votes for Staley. In Johnson County, May won 2,437 votes, while Staley had 577 votes.

The two candidates faced off to represent the district, which includes parts of Nineveh and Hensley Townships in Johnson County, all of Brown County and parts of Jackson, Lawrence and Monroe counties.

If elected, May’s top priorities for office are ending deficits, reducing the national debt and reforming the state’s tax code to better promote growth and investment in Indiana, he said in issues survey from Brown County League of Women Voters.
