Gladys (Watts) Machledt, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gladys was born on August 23rd, 1925 in Perry County, Kentucky to the late George Watts and Dulcany (Franklin) Watts.
Gladys married her beloved husband, the late Dr. John H. Machledt, on January 2nd, 1966 in Greenwood, Indiana. They were married for 20 wonderful years.
Gladys was employed at Johnson Memorial Hospital and worked as a nurse’s aide for 10 plus years. She was a devoted housewife and was the caregiver to her late husband until his passing. Gladys’ greatest joy in life was spending time with and taking care of all her grandchildren. She was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother. Gladys enjoyed creating memories with her loved ones while traveling on family vacations.
Gladys is survived by her three sons, Charles H. (Karen) McDaniel, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Larry W. (Marsha) McDaniel, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Dr. John H. (Phyllis) Machledt, of Easton, Connecticut; her daughter, Sara Arden (Mike) Gridley, of Indianapolis, Indiana; her ten grandchildren, Kristy (John) Nystrom, Angela (Phil) Christian, Laurie (Jon) Hall, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Emily McDaniel, Josh McDaniel, Amy (Adam) Reese, all of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Kathy (Stan) Pelletier, of Ellsworth, Maine, David (Lauren) Machledt, of Washington D.C., Kelly Gridley, Lindsey (Bryce) New, both of Greenwood, Indiana; 5 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her first husband, Master Sergeant Charles H. McDaniel, who was killed in action during the Korean War on November 2nd, 1950; her late husband, Dr. John H. Machledt, who passed away in 1986; her parents, George Watts and Dulcany (Franklin) Watts; her three brothers, McCoy Watts, Flannery Watts, James Watts; her four sisters, Bessie Pratt, Alta Dixon, Della Lindsey, Lonnie Dixon.
Memorial contributions may be made out to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Private family services will be held.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required at all services and visitations.
