Franklin woman dies after motorcycle collides with car

A Franklin woman died after a head-on collision this weekend.

Lindzay S. Vandusen, 34, died when the motorcycle she was driving collided with a car in the 600 block of South State Street in Franklin.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. Saturday near the entrance to Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

When Franklin police arrived on scene, they saw a Mercury Grand Marquis in the roadway, its driver’s side front wheel heavily damaged, according to an accident report.

A young woman was holding the driver of the car, an 84-year-old Franklin woman. The officer asked where the other car involved was. The young woman pointed north toward the motorcycle, the report said.

Officers saw debris in the roadway, a motorcycle on its side on the east side of the street and Vandusen on the sidewalk north of the motorcycle, according to the report.

Vandusen suffered severe injuries. A Homeview Health worker and an officer applied tourniquets, the report said. Vandusen was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, then flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she died on the operating table, a Marion County coroner told police.

The driver of the Grand Marquis told police she was southbound on State Street, returning home from visiting a relative in Whiteland, and Vandusen was traveling north. She told police she did not see the motorcycle until it was too late and did not know what happened, according to the report. Family arrived on scene and took her home, the report said.

State Street was closed in both directions while Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated. The Grand Marquis traveling left of center is listed as the primary cause of the accident, according to the report.
