Robert “Bob” Hugh Claxton, 96, passed away on November 30, 2020 while residing at Heritage House in Shelbyville, Indiana. He was a longtime resident of Franklin, Indiana.

Bob was born in French Lick, Indiana on August 5, 1924 to Alta Marie Sloan and Louis William Claxton.

He graduated from French Lick High School in 1942. After graduating, he attended Hanover College for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served from 1943 to 1946. He returned to Hanover College to complete his studies and graduated in 1949.

Bob married Theresa Kasper on June 29, 1948. She lovingly survives and is also a resident of Heritage House. They began their married life in Franklin, Indiana when Bob started teaching at Needham Elementary. He was employed by Franklin Community Schools for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1986. During his tenure with Franklin Schools, he was employed as a teacher, basketball coach, Junior High School Principal, and an Assistant High School Principal.

After his retirement from Franklin Schools he was employed by Franklin College as a basketball, golf and tennis coach.

Bob and Theresa were actively involved with St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church until their move to Shelbyville.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; grandson, Zachary Morgan and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Zanetti Claxton.

Survivors include his wife Theresa and their five children; Paula Morgan (Michael), Bob Claxton, Jr. (Susan), Jeffrey Claxton (Olga), Charles Claxton (Julie) and Michael Claxton (Becky). Also surviving are grandchildren, Jarek Morgan (Kristen), Ryan Claxton (Jennie), Brady Claxton (Ashley), Brett Claxton (Angela), Katie Claxton, Jessica Claxton, Evan Claxton (Tanya), Aaron Claxton, Alex Claxton, Marshall Claxton (Anna), Gabrielle Claxton and Bryce Claxton; great grandchildren include Maxwell, Evelyn and Samuel Morgan, Caden, Chloe, Carson, Emma, Sophie, Cash, Cora and Marley Claxton. Also surviving is cousin, Albert Chastain of Mitchell, Indiana.

Father Steve Schaftlein will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin, Indiana 46131. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 4 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, Franklin, Indiana 46131. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Per the Indiana State Governor, Eric Holcomb, and the Indiana State Department of Health’s mandate, all services and visitations are limited to 50 people or less as of November 15, 2020. Masks are mandatory and are to be worn at all times.
