Boys basketball

Braves hold off Cougars

Indian Creek pulled out a 66-59 win at Greenwood Christian on Tuesday, with Ethan Williams and Mason Britt hitting some key free throws to hold off a late Cougar rally.

Williams scored 21 points and Mason Britt 18 for the Braves (3-5), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Styles McCorkle finished with 28 and Isaiah Davis 17 for the Cougars (3-3).

Girls basketball

Trojans stifle Orioles

A solid defensive effort lifted Center Grove to a comfortable 45-19 victory over Avon on Tuesday evening. Mary Wilson did much of the offensive damage for the Trojans (8-6), outscoring the Orioles by herself with 22 points.

Franklin remains unbeaten

Franklin kept its perfect start going with a 59-37 road win over Perry Meridian. Kuryn Brunson led the the Class 4A No. 7 Grizzly Cubs (11-0) with 21 points, followed by Scarlett Kimbrell with 13 and Kyra Baker with 10.

Cougars roll past Cowan

Brooklyn Stubblefield poured in 28 points to help lead Greenwood Christian to a 60-37 victory over Cowan in the opening round of the Union City Invitational. Izzy Reed added 18 points for the Cougars (7-4), who lost to Northeastern in a late semifinal showdown, 59-55.

Also on Tuesday, Reed was named the IBCA’s District 3 girls Player of the Week after averaging 33 points and 10.5 rebounds in GCA’s two victories last week.
