Two dead in Christmas Eve shooting near Bargersville

Two are dead and one is believed to be in critical condition after a shooting Thursday morning at the Circle K on Johnson County’s western border.

Bargersville Police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for shots fired at 5:08 a.m. at 9400 W SR 144, Martinsville. Though the gas station has a Martinsville address it is in Bargersville’s police jurisdiction, said Jeremey Roll, spokesperson for the police department.

At the scene, Bargersville police found two men dead and another injured on the northside of the gas station parking lot, Roll said.

No one witnessed the crime other than the surviving victim, and no one heard the shots fired, he said.

A customer reported the crime scene to the gas station clerk, Roll said.

Police don’t have any suspects or know much about the shooter at this time, but they do not think there is any danger to the community, he said.

Bargersville hasn’t seen a homicide in recent memory. A crime like this, especially on Christmas Eve, is hard to see, he said.

“We aren’t too happy about this type of crime being in Bargersville,” Roll said. “But this is off of two different highways, so we have a lot of different transient individuals. This is the type of thing we don’t typically see here.”

Now, the day before Christmas, Roll is taking the lead on a homicide investigation.
