Grizzly Cubs third at state duals

Host Franklin placed third at the IHSWCA 3A State Duals on Saturday, defeating Terre Haute South and Mishawaka but falling to East Central in a 37-31 semifinal.

Tyler Fuqua pinned all three of his opponents for the Grizzly Cubs, who also got 3-0 days from Jake Bechert, Luke Bechert, Harris Eason and Jacob Johnson.

Sixth-place Roncalli got three wins each from Bryce Lowery, Luke Hansen and Sam Peeples.

Boys basketball

Warriors claim tournament title

Whiteland came back from a three-week layoff and claimed the championship at the Batesville holiday tournament on Saturday. The Warriors (3-2) beat the host Bulldogs 62-44 in their opener and then followed up with a 68-57 triumph over Jennings County in the title game.

Grizzly Cubs win second straight

Three players scored in double figures as Franklin defeated Southwestern, 64-39. Will McLaughlin paced the Grizzly Cubs (2-4) with 15 points, followed by John Shepard with 12 and Damon Dickey with 10.

Trojans fall at Perry Meridian

Playing for the first time in three weeks, Center Grove came up short at Perry Meridian on Saturday, 65-55. Landin Hacker led the Trojans (3-2) with 18 points, while Tayven Jackson scored 13 and Marcus Ankney 11.

Lollar, Lancers top Knights

Annelise Lollar poured in a career-high 34 points to help Edinburgh snap a three-game losing streak with a 63-48 home win over South Dearborn on Saturday. Callie Hancock added 11 points for the Lancers (5-6), followed by Bethany Burton and Gracie Crawhorn with eight apiece.

Braves split tourney games

Indian Creek began play at its own holiday tournament with a 78-23 rout of Purdue Polytechnic before taking a tough 54-50 loss to North Harrison in the nightcap. Lauren Foster totaled 53 points on the day for the Braves (8-5), while Emily Todor and Kurstin Thompson added 18 and 16, respectively.
