Wilma Ellen (Sanders) Hilgeman, 95, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2021 at her residence in Greenwood Village South. She was a former resident of Indianapolis, Mitchell, and Brownstown.
</p>
<p>
She was born October 1, 1925 in Mitchell, IN to Van R. and Osa (Isom) Sanders.
</p>
<p>
Wilma is survived by her two children, Alan (Jean) Hilgeman and Sue Hilgeman Dykes; grandsons, Paul (Kim) Hilgeman and Brian (Tammy) Hilgeman and seven (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren.
</p>
<p>
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carl Louis Hilgeman, her sisters Anna Hazel (Sanders) Webb and Freida Mae (Sanders) Burchfield and her parents, Van R. and Osa (Isom) Sanders.
</p>
<p>
Wilma was born in Mitchell Indiana on a beautiful southern Indiana farm. After graduating from Mitchell High School (1943), she moved to Indianapolis where she resided for most of the remainder of her life. She married Carl on June 23, 1945. She worked as a secretary and retired from Perry Township Schools in 1987.
</p>
<p>
She attended Center United Methodist Church for over 50 years and enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends.
</p>
<p>
Due to the pandemic, there will be a private graveside service and no visitation. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
</p>
<p>
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Center United Methodist Church, 5445 Bluff Road, Indianapolis, IN 46217 or the Greenwood Village South Employee Appreciation Fund, ATTN Mike Deitrich, 295 Village Lane, Greenwood, IN 46143.
