Compass Park residents, staff will be vaccinated this week after wait

After a long wait and some families pulling out loved ones to get a vaccine, Compass Park has a date for vaccinations.

All willing residents and staff on Thursday will receive a COVID-19 vaccine after much anticipation. The facility found out late Thursday, said Mike Spencer, the facility’s executive director.

Officials weren’t told why the wait for a date was so long, Spencer said.

It is unclear how many other Johnson County facilities are still waiting on vaccination dates.

CVS officials last week said long-term care facilities focusing on assisted living would be given dates by Monday, Jan. 18, or shortly after. Monday was the date after which the state says CVS should start vaccinating residents and staff at assisted living facilities.

There is some confusion about why Compass Park’s date was not scheduled sooner, given the facility offers both skilled nursing care and assisted living.

Still, everyone at the Franklin facility is relieved the date is set, Spencer said.

“We are very pleased. Our residents and families are very pleased,” he said. “It is another box we can check to end this pandemic.”
