WHITELAND, IN.

<p>
James R. Canary, 74, of Whiteland, IN passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with Covid in Sebring, Florida.
</p>
<p>
Jim was born on August 2, 1946 in Shelby County, Indiana to Wilbur Canary and Helen (Shelton) Canary Drake. He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School and retired from the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation where he was fondly known as "Mr. Jim".
</p>
<p>
He attended Victory Christian Church in Franklin, IN, where he was an active member. Jim was a longtime Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed fishing during his winters in Florida and loved to Cruise. He loved to watch the Price Is Right and Family Feud. Jim was well known for his big smile and laugh, and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Karen (Ford) Canary of Whiteland, IN, three children David Canary (Dana) of Bargersville, IN, Rhonda Alford (Doug) of Greenwood, IN and Darin Canary (Jen) of Wauchula, FL, twelve grandchildren Megan Long (Cody), Brittany Pitman (Justin), Jordan Canary, Kyle Alford (Shelby), Allison Wain, Austin Wain, Kaylyn Alford, Jared Canary, JT Canary, Lauren Wain, Haley Canary and Trey Canary, four great-grandchildren Dakota and Elena Long, Mikeal and Bayli Pitman.
</p>
<p>
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Wilbur C. Drake, a sister Jona Wainscott, his mother-in-law and father- in-law Tom and Ann Ford as well as a great-granddaughter Anna Grace Long.
</p>
<p>
Jim will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
</p>
<p>
Friends may call Monday, February 8, 2021 from 4PM until 7PM at Victory Christian Church, 1720 North Graham Road, Franklin, IN. Pastors Josh Cadwell and Darin Canary will conduct a service on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Victory Christian Church, 1720 North Graham Road in Franklin, IN with visitation from 11AM till service time. Due to COVID-19 mandates, facial coverings, mask and social distancing is required for those attending the visitation and services.
</p>
<p>
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
</p>
<p>
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
