County library resumes regular hours

All Johnson County Public Library branches resumed regular hours Thursday.

Library officials announced the change this week, as Johnson County continues to make progress, according to the state’s coronavirus metrics.

Before January, the doors of the county library’s four branches were mostly closed to the public due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. People were allowed to reserve computer time, but otherwise, the only book and DVD pickup occurred outside the libraries’ doors, using a curbside pickup system similar to what the library introduced earlier in the pandemic.

In the absence of in-person services, the library launched a home delivery service in December. Previously, it had a system in place to deliver to people who couldn’t physically leave their homes, but the new delivery service is open to everyone who lives within the library’s boundaries, which covers all of Johnson County except for Edinburgh and parts of Greenwood.

The library closed its doors again in December, when Johnson County moved to “red,” the highest level of COVID-19 spread according to the state’s color-coded metrics. Since then, the county moved back to “orange,” and is on track to return to “yellow.”

Now, the Clark Pleasant and Trafalgar branches will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday. The Franklin and White River branches will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

All four branches will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
