Gladys Ellen (Settle) Shelton passed away February 12, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 22, 1930 to Earl Douglas and Gladys C. Settle in Bedford, Indiana. She was a 1948 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. She married Wayne C. Shelton on May 7,1950 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2010. Gladys was a resident of New Whiteland for over 60 years. Survivors include her sons Jay (Beve) Shelton, Mark (Lea) Shelton, and Jeff (Sarah) Shelton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Caleb (Camrie) Shelton, Robert Shelton, Hannah (Kortney) Mercer, Nathan (Brooke) Shelton, Kelli (Daniel) Graham, Megan (Robert) Hunt, Reuben Shelton, Aaron Shelton and Rachel Shelton as well as six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers as well as an infant daughter Janice Lee Shelton, and her grandson Joshua Shelton.

Gladys was a member of Christian Chapel Church in Morgantown, IN and a former long-time member of New Whiteland Christian Church. She lived a life of exemplary Christian service and was a lifelong volunteer. She led a Bible Study group at the Indiana Boys School in Plainfield for 15 years and volunteered in the surgery center at Johnson Memorial Hospital for more than 12 years, with other acts of service at Camp Allendale in Trafalgar, IN. She had a special place in her heart for St Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, where she contributed to efforts to give Lakota children a safe place to live, learn and dream.

<p>
Calling is set for Wednesday, February 17 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, with a funeral service Thursday, February 18 at 10:30 am. Brother Kendall Faull will officiate. Covid-19 restrictions require face coverings and social distancing and a gathering limit of 50 people.
